MARACAY AND FRANCE

"aj.mickiewicz@mail1.dupont.com"

Hi Ladislao:

I enjoyed the pictures of yourself, Alberto Ache and Brian Goddard in the March 8 Circular since I lived in Maracay for 15 years before moving to the USA in 1963.

As I recall, Dr Gabaldon (statue present in one of the pictures) was the minister of the Venezuelan Agriculture Department.

My grandfather, Dr Szumkowski, worked at the ministry's research centre located in El Limon, outside of Maracay.

I spent lots of time playing there in my early childhood.

Would like to return some day and visit.

I just returned from my 7th trip to India and I am visiting my middle son and his family in France.

He works for Caterpillar and was transferred to their plant in Grenoble (hosted 1968 Winter Olympics) in November.

This is an amazing place located in a valley surrounded by the Alps.

We have done lots of sightseeing and eaten wonderful French food.

We will probably return frequently to visit Europe.

God Bless,

George

MSB Old Boys (!) Committee Meeting Sun 14th June 09.

Nigel P. Boos

Friday, June 5, 2009 5:20:23 PM

Chris,

I would appreciate if the Committee would please discuss the disposition of funds collected on behalf of Kitty Marcus and donated by some of the Old Boys.

Hudson McKoy and I are the signatories to this account, and I would hope that by now some decision could be made by the ASAA Mgt Team as to what should be done to honour the old lady.

Thanks.

Nigel

Gentlemen,

A committee meeting is proposed for 7.30pm Sunday June 14th in the Members lounge at the Queens Park Cricket Club, Elizabeth Street, Port of Spain.

Earlier dates are clashing with committee members prior commitments.

The Agenda is 1. To discuss the Association name,

2. To Discuss matters arising from Ladislao's recent visit, including Association publicity etc.

3. Any other matters.

Item One is occasioned by difficulties in obtaining permission to use 'Abbey School' in our Association name.

There is a Cricket Festival during this month at the Oval, and parking inside the car park may be a problem, so street parking may be necessary.

However, I think that by 7pm (on a Sunday) things may be over owing to impending work on Monday!

When you get there call me on 345 7987 so I can direct you if necessary.

I would appreciate a response so I know who will be there (or not).

See you there,

Chris.

From:

Ladislao,

I have been trying to make contact with the 1960 people and have had some success; some of our Trinidad classmates are not easy to find, but I am persisting. (Graham Gonsalves has been contacted).

The hotel, in Valsayn, is booked from Friday 16th to Thursday 21st (you put it as 20th, below!), and I have assumed that you will be coming on your own.

So far there is a meeting on Saturday early afternoon of our group with Dennis Gurley, the lawyer, which will cover aspects of our proposed Association constitution.

On Saturday evening a dinner has been arranged and will include both former classmates and those of us who are committee members and involved in any social networking proposals.

On Sunday there are two alternatives for your choice. One is a visit to Mount for Mass and the other is a boat trip down the islands with two 1960 Old Boys (who they might be has not yet been arranged) and three others, including Joseph.

I have contacted Winston's brother about your interest in Piarco, about which I had no details, and am waiting on a response so that I can slot it into the schedule.

On Monday afternoon at about 4pm there will be an Association committee meeting, mainly about website/social networking matters.

Joseph has offered to arrange a outing to the country, possibly overnight, for a small group, on Tuesday.

I will be emailing you on Monday 11th with more information/details, but I would appreciate any comments or questions in the interim.

Best Wishes,

Chris.

Chris !

Ok I understand, and hope that you have luck.

On the long run, the publication of the photos is a plus for MOUNT.

Did you make calls to find out if Class 1960 can meet???

Otherwise I would like to meet individually or those that cannot gather.

But my main concern is the Association´s meeting, shall it be on Saturday???

I propose additionally smaller meetings as required so that I may get the ideas to be able to keep the Circular running thru 2010.

Re: Fw: Local transport visit to TT

Saturday, March 28, 2009 12:46:14 PM

Dear Winston,

Thank you for the transportation offer, I have not done any planning because of the lack of a date.

So I have chosen the 15th of May Thursday to arrive by air as the ferry has only one trip a week.

Return on Tuesday or Wednesday depending on the activities etc.

I believe that Thursday is good as that leaves Friday as the first night with a possibility of meeting.

Now the main meeting day would be Saturday??? and then there is Sunday for other post meeting.

I shall make the local connections on Thursday maybe so that Monday etc. can be devoted to my friends or what ever comes of the weekend talks.

I make this sound like if I am Michael Jackson going on tour, jajajaja, but I am just letting you know that we can have the weekend and Friday night to play with.

Maybe one general meeting is all that we need !!!! A dinner and nothing else.

So with this first schedule you can comment your thoughts.

I know that you are busy guys and even weekends are precious, I understand because I feel the same way.

Maybe the trip will help as a unstress therapy.

Lots of sightseeing, maybe a Mayaro trip??? You make the plans.

Of course the Monastery and maybe an access to Fr. Benedict's photos?? can you arrange, Monday, Tuesday???

Mass on Sunday???

Can you tell me your phone number again and when is convenient for me to call.

So here we start, keep well

Ladislao

Dear Ladislao,

We whom are here in Trinidad will coordinate with Kazim to make certain that he is both here and available to advance this project when you arrive.

The sense of our intent is that we would have a well developed interactive Web site (functioning as a sort of portal) facilitating different kinds of content including video, audio and messaging which would allow those whom are in the site to select whom they would like to chat with and for others to join or leave a particular chat group at will.

Critical to meaning fullness of what we are about, would be some speed on the implementation of having the audio and video interviews with our past teachers whom are still alive produced as soon as possible.

kind regards and best wishes.

Yours sincerely

Joseph Berment-McDowald

Dear Ladislao,

My apologies for not emailing you sooner.

I have been out contact with everyone for about ten days but now things have returned to normal.

At our meeting on January 25th we realised that it should be most practical if you could make your visit to Trinidad in April, perhaps sometime after the Easter period, depending on whatever commitments, family or otherwise, you might have around that time.

(The international governmental meeting is in the first half of April).

We want to integrate our activities with Old Boys who are outside of Trinidad, and so are developing a unified website which will be on offer to all Old Boys.

This has been the creative work of Kazim Abasali, and we consider that you should be a part of this effort and so feel that a meeting including both of you is important.

Our first proposed project is to have existing priests and prominent old boys interviewed by an old boy and have the audio/video interview with a biography on the website.

We are concerned for obvious reasons that we need to act soon to speak to our former teachers.

As to your visit here, we will pay for your accommodation for up to four nights.

We have contact with a small hotel in Valsayn which is a suitable place.

If there is a time for your visit which is better for you than around Easter please let us know, as we are flexible.

Once more, I apologise for not being in contact with you sooner.

(I will be away from Trinidad for March).

Best Wishes,

Chris.

Ps: I am copying this to Joe and Winston.

Hey, you guys,

As you must know, Mt. St. Benedict is suffering today, largely through the shortage of vocations, which ultimately means a shortage of personnel required to make the monastery work.

As a result, it appears to me that we can individually offer a little help to the monks as they struggle through each day.

A new book covering the history of Mt. St. Benedict has been published and is available for sale at the monastery.

Perhaps each of us can consider purchasing one or two of these books, for ourselves or as presents for others, as a way to support the efforts of the monks. I have no idea what the price of the book is.

Anyone wishing to buy one can order it directly through the Monastery or perhaps, through Fr. Cuthbert ( cuthpax@yahoo.co.uk )

Over to you.

Nigel
